• Swanton Councilman Clarion Ingraham reported that several complaints have been made by motorists that the stop signs at the railroad crossing at Munson Road are difficult to see.
• Anderson’s Valleywood Furniture opened for business on Airport Highway east of Swanton in the former Glen’s Furniture location.
• An adjourned session of the Swanton Board of Education was held to discuss the need for additional classroom space.

• The Corn Festival was scheduled for Sept. 19.

• Loaves of bread containing vitamin B1 were advertised at 11 cents each by Harding’s Bakery.

• The engine of a passenger train derailed six miles west of Swanton after striking an automobile. One wheel of the car became lodged in the tracks and could not be removed.

• It was announced a Willys Knight sedan would be given away at the October Corn Festival.

• Two young bandits escaped from Marshal William Harding following an arrest in Swanton.
