Swanton Public Library plans programs for adults


Several events are upcoming this month for adults at the Swanton Public Library.

Yoga Classes

Beginning Yoga, with instructor Aimee Strohbeck, will be offered on Mondays, Feb. 1, 8, 22, and 29 from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. The library is closed Monday, Feb. 15 for President’s Day so there will be no class that day.

These sessions are slightly more advanced than those on Thursdays, providing students with an opportunity to expand their skill level. Class fee is $10 per session with multi-session tickets available. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing.

Intro to Yoga will be offered on Thursdays Feb. 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 10:15- 11:30 a.m. Class fee is by donation, with proceeds benefitting the library. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing.

Adult Coloring Activity

The library offering a new program called Coloring for Grown-ups: Why Should Kids Have all the Fun? Adults are invited to come and color and create a beautiful piece to display – the library provides great coloring sheets and colored pencils.

This free program will be Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and will be facilitated by artist-in-residence, Gail Phipps. Call the library to register.

Cardmaking Classes

The series of Cardmaking Classes, led by Anna Geis, continues in February with birthday cards. The class will be held Saturday, Feb. 20 from 1-4 p.m. and the fee is $5 for 3 cards. Children 8 and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Chess at SPL

Chess will continue to be offered Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 1 p.m. The chess group, led by Joe Mossa, continues to grow steadily, so come join them for a challenging game.

Free Knitting Instruction

The Knitting Group, led by Kathy Queen, will meet five times in February. Daytime knitters will meet Monday, Feb. 1, Tuesday, Feb. 16 and Monday, Feb. 29 this month at 1:30 p.m. Evening knitters will meet at 6:30 pm on Wednesdays, Feb. 3 and 17.

All skill levels are welcome to attend this free class – crocheters are welcome too! Beginners please bring a pair of knitting needles, size 8 to 15.

Attention Seniors!

Fulton County Residents ages 60 and older can get help with understanding Medicare, bills, applications and more. Valerie Edwards, Information and Referral Specialist from the Fulton County Senior Center, will be at the Swanton Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 18 from 10 am till noon. If you have questions or need help finding answers, call the Senior Center at 419-337-9299 to schedule an appointment for this free service.
