Teen events at SPL
There are three events coming up at the Swanton Public Library designed for older students.
Life of a Veterinarian
Local veterinarian, Dr. Laura Schmidt, will speak to any interested teens (grades 6-12) at Swanton Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 18 from 6-7 p.m. Schmidt is a graduate of Ohio State University and has been a practicing veterinarian for 19 years. She limits her practice to equine care.
Schmidt will talk about the schooling needed to become a veterinarian. Also, she will talk about what you can do now to be better prepared to enter this field of study. She will tell you about some of her on-the-job experiences - including the good and the bad. She will conclude her talk with questions and answers.
Please sign up at the library if you would like to attend. Call 419-826-2760 or register on-line at www.swanton.lib.oh.us
Book chat
The book selection for February's high school book chat is "Whale Talk" by Chris Crutcher. The chat will take place on Feb. 25 from 6:30 -7:30 p.m. Rebecca Hounshell will lead.
Intellectually and athletically gifted, TJ, a multiracial, adopted teenager, shuns organized sports and the gung-ho athletes at his high school until he agrees to form a swimming team and recruits some of the school's less popular students.
Anime DVD
Students in grades 6-12 can go to Swanton Public Library on Friday, Feb. 26 from 4-5 p.m. to review the anime DVD, Moon Phase.
What is it about? "While Kouhei ranks among the best in paranormal photography, he's never actually seen a ghost! So when he fails to capture a hauntingly beautiful young girl on camera, curiosity drives him into the arms of a haughty vampire and a world he cannot comprehend."
They will show the first few episodes from vol. 1. There will be a random drawing to give away the DVD as a prize! Free popcorn and drinks! Call to sign up at (419) 826-2760 or sign up on-line at www.swanton.lib.oh.us.
