Rams end Swanton's season

DEFIANCE - The top seeded Tinora Rams ended the season of the Swanton Bulldogs with a 55-22 Division III sectional victory on Tuesday.

The Rams led 14-7 after the first period and never looked back. They extended the lead to 23-13 at halftime.

"I was very pleased with our team's effort," said Swanton Coach Frank Onweller. "We played hard and hung with them in the first half, but in the long run they had too much for us. They are very solid and very well coached. That's why they were the number one seed."

Tinora took 12 more shots than Swanton to help overcome the Bulldogs' shooting percentage of over 50 percent from two-point range. Swanton made 7 of 13 two pointers and 2 of 11 from beyond the arc. The Rams hit 17 of 28 two point field goals, while making 3 of 8 three pointers.

Tinora forced 18 turnovers, while committing 13. They also outrebounded Swanton 24-14.

Kendra Eitniear led Swanton (4-17) with six points. Ashley Meyer tallied 15 points and Anna Steffel 13 for the Rams.

It was the end of a career for four Swanton seniors - Nicole Betz, Danielle Bezeau, Allison Crow and Sam Young.

"We appreciate their efforts and commitment to the program over the past four seasons," said Onweller. "The underclassmen and incoming freshman need to have a good off-season and improve our offensive basketball skills."
