Lytle finishes third, Dogs 18th at state
COLUMBUS - Swanton's Mimmo stepped up a few levels on the podium on his return trip to the Division III Ohio High School Wrestling Championships. Lytle, who placed eighth at 285 pounds as a freshman last season, improved to third place this year.
He opened with pins of Danny Richards of Sugarcreek Garaway and Tyler Jewell of Carlisle to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, he met Greg Dailey of Independence, who defeated Lytle for seventh at state in 2009, got the best of him again with a pin.
Lytle fell to the consolation bracket, where he responded with two quick pins. He pinned Mike Stenger of Clarksville Clinton-Massie in 56 seconds to advance to the third place final.
Then he had one of the quickest pins in state meet history. He avenged an earlier regular season loss to Kyle Kelly of Akron Manchester with a 12 second pin to earn third place.
Also for Swanton, Derek Johnson won his first match with a pin of Tiffin Calvert's Mike Mullen. But, in the quarterfinals, he dropped a tight 2-1 decision in overtime to Brent Allerding of Loudonville.He then fell to Joe Whisler of Ashland Crestview in his next match and was eliminated.
Tom Leahey went two and out. He fell to eventual state runner-up Nick LeForce of Carlisle in the opening round and dropped a 6-5 decision to Shane Pelfrey of Chesapeake in the consolation bracket.
Swanton was 18th with 26 points in Division III. Monroeville won the team title with 116 points
