Six Bulldogs advance to district meet

BLOOMDALE - The Swanton wrestling team advanced six wrestlers to the district tournament including two individual champions.

At 215 pounds, Derek Johnson defeated Stephen Klotz of Lakota 7-3 to win the title. Mimmo Lytle won the 285 pound title by defeating Jarrett Smith of Lakota 12-6 in the final.

Tom Leahey finished second at 160 pounds for the Bulldogs after being pinned by Kyle Gladieux of Cardinal Stritch in the final.

Swanton also had two third place finishers. Jacob McCoy pinned Gage Collins of Gibsonburg to win the consolation final at 103 pounds. Chris Cook scored a major decision over Jon Angelone of Gibsonburg to claim third at 140 pounds.

Don Johnson also advanced with a fourth place finish at 135 pounds.

Evergreen finished as team runner-up to Elmwood. The Vikings had no individual champions but did have two second place finishers. League champion Brandon Fahrer finished second at 103 pounds, while Samual Heilman was second at 135 pounds.

The Vikings also had five third place finishers in Jamie Boger, Austen Lulfs, Cody Rade, Aaron Huffman and Richard Spencer. Chris Flickenger finished fourth.

The district tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Owens Community College. Lytle and Derek Johnson will be looking to qualify for return trips to the state tournament. Pairings are on baumspage.com.
