The preschoolers at St. Richard School have been having a great time learning about the first Thanksgiving. They have learned about the Mayflower and made their own replica in the classroom. They have learned about the Pilgrims and Indians who celebrated the first Thanksgiving together. Last week the young students celebrated their own Thanksgiving feast.
The next great adventure in store for the preschoolers will be on Monday, November 30 when they will visit the Valentine Theater in Toledo to view the performance of, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."
The Kindergartners have been working hard to enhance their reading skills by putting together many new sounds. Coupled with their sight words, they are so excited that they are now beginning to read! In math, they are working on their numbers and number words, as well as practicing previous skills of counting, sorting, position words, and patterns.
On Tuesday, Nov. 17 students in kindergarten through 5th grade traveled to the Franciscan Center of Lourdes College to see the presentation of "Jigsaw Jones." The play was based on the popular book series by James Preller and the fictional junior detective adventures of Theodore "Jigsaw" Jones.
An all school Thanksgiving lunch was held on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The meal began with prayer led by Fr. Dan and was enjoyed by many parents as well. The students were paired up into buddy groups for the lunch and then enjoyed some buddy play time together afterwards.
All students at St. Richard are busy working on rehearsing for the all school Christmas program to be held on Thursday, Dec. 10. They will have two performances, 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
